The Career Alignment Playbook (2025 Edition)
A practical framework to move from “something’s off” to a 30–90 day plan you can actually execute.

1) Diagnose Misalignment in 15 Minutes

- Tag each task with (+) energizing, (–) draining, or (~) neutral.
- Note why it felt that way (autonomy, clarity, stakes, people, pace).
- Look for repeat patterns after a week.
Signal Questions
- Where do hours disappear (positive flow)?
- What do colleagues naturally ask you for?
- Which meetings do you secretly hope get canceled?

2) The Alignment Matrix (4 Pillars)
Score each pillar from 1–5. Anything ≤2 is a flag; consistent 3–5 across pillars is healthy.
Values ↔ Work
- Can you name the trade-offs you refuse to make?
- Does your work benefit something you care about?
Strengths in Use
- Are your natural patterns (e.g., analysis, synthesis, empathy) used daily?
- Do results depend on your best abilities?
Energy Rhythm
- Time of day, collaboration style, focus vs. variety—does the role match your rhythm?
Context Fit
- Team, manager, scope, constraints—does the environment help you be effective?
3) Design 3 Low-Risk Experiments
Don’t jump—test. Use 2–4 week “micro-bets” to gather evidence quickly.

- Shadow or interview: 2× 30-minute conversations with people doing the role.
- Freelance/volunteer: Deliver one real outcome with a clear metric.

Define Success (before you start)

- Evidence: a shipped artifact, user feedback, or measurable delta.
- Desire: do you want to repeat it next week, unprompted?

- Learning Pull: Hours you want to learn (not forced).
- Story Strength: Short, credible “why now” narrative (people mirror your clarity).
