What is career counselling?
Career counselling generally involves a conversation with a practitioner to explore your situation, choices and next steps. Before booking, ask about their training, relevant experience, approach and the boundaries of the service. Counselling about your career is different from training for a career as a counsellor; this page concerns help with your own decision.
Bring a specific question: whether to change roles, how to compare a study route, or why a target does not seem realistic. Ask how the discussion will examine your evidence and constraints rather than only produce a list of occupations.
When a self-assessment is a useful first step

In the UK, use the careers service appropriate to your nation. Check the current service offering rather than assuming identical access or provision across locations.
